See, God has come to save me.

I will trust in Him and not be afraid.

The Lord God is my strength and my song;

he has given me victory.” – Isaiah 12:2

I don’t know about you but during my Christian walk there have been many times where I’ve not trusted God. I’ve not trusted Him with my spouse, my finances, my future, my family. Majority of the time I thought I could handle it myself and then would put a bit of a God bow on top of it. Ultimately it led to me getting into a bad relationship and being paralysed by fear, worry and anxiety. But this verse reminds me that He’s come to rescue me from that. That He’s my strength and song and that’s He’s already won the battle and conquered the grave.

So I wanted to cover 4 points on elements of God’s character that will remind us to trust Him. Meditate on these attributes and scriptures.

What is it that you would like the Lord to impart to you today? It’s yours for the taking:

Elements of God’s character that display Him as a trustworthy God to meditate on:

1. God is an upright God.

The meaning of upright is honest, just and honourable. God is the absolute embodiment of love and He also encompasses truth. God is a God of justice, He is our ultimate judge. What better judge to have than that who sees the beginning and the end, who knows and sees all hidden things? At His core, He is love and sometimes because we can’t see the whole picture we judge that which we see but God judges all things and His intentions are always pure to those who love and follow Him. The ways of the just aren’t often always seen as just by the crooked but in that we trust that God will get the final word.

For the word of the Lord is upright,

And all His work is done in faithfulness.

Psalm 33:3
  • Has there been anything that you haven’t fully given over to our just God? Perhaps with a skewed view of thinking that he is just like man, frail and deceiving instead of honest, just and honourable?

2. His Word never returns void.

When He speaks, like we see in Genesis – things come into being. Things happen when He speaks. So in the knowledge that He is love, truth and just, upright in all His ways we have to eventually come to the realisation that the words he says are true and living and have come to pass in prophecies gone by and fulfilled. He speaks and His words go forth and it happens.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11
  • Reflect on God’s promises. Write down the promises He has promised to you and pray into them.

3. God is faithful

His lovingkindness will never stop. He is faithful from generation to generation. He is faithful in giving us what we need at just the right time. Now that timing may not always look like how we think it should look like but it is His perfect timing nonetheless. Sometimes we need a reminder of His faithfulness, it is easy to forget the times He has been there for us especially as life continues and gets busy.

Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Deuteronomy 7:9
  • Upon reflecting on faithfulness write down 3 times you saw God’s faithfulness in your life.

4. He fights for us

When we go out for ministry, we go with the expectancy that the Lord has already been working on hearts, softening and opening minds. And that the principalities of darkness are defeated and slain before we hit the scene. We don’t need to fear because the battle’s already won! So I encourage you to look, think and act in the mindset of God’s precious daughter and son whose equipped you for such a time as this.

Do not be afraid of the nations there, for the LORD your God will fight for you.

Deuteronomy 3:22
  • Finally write down the battles that wage war in your mind and proclaim a prayer of thanksgiving. Let it sink deep to know that “God will fight for you.”
